International Women’s Day with IoD Malta to discuss Women’s Roles on Boards

The Institute of Directors Malta (IoD) are celebrating International Women's Day on March 5 by holding an event at the WX2 Business Hub in Ta' Xbiex that features notable women; Dr. Marie Therese Cuschieri, Nadia Pace and Dr. Roberta Lepre, addressing the topic of 'Women's Roles on Boards'.

They will cover four key areas: challenges of women in leadership, diversity in the boardroom, women's roles on Boards, and the impacts of ESG as a growing issue in the boardroom. The discussion will be moderated by Edwin Ward, IoD Malta Chair.

Dr Marie Therese Cuschieri is the Chairperson of the Malta Confederation of Women's Organisations (MCWO). Dr. Cuschieri has a background in gender equality and sports. Dr. Cuschieri has also worked for several years in the management of family business, giving her a unique perspective on how women can drive performance and add significant value to enterprises. In parallel with her doctoral studies in the UK, she was part of the Loughborough University, Self-Assessment Team, Athena Awards programme which looks at good practice for recruiting, retaining and promoting women in Science, Engineering, and Technology (SET) in Higher Education. Locally, she occupied a number of important posts within Maltese sport organisations, including Director on the Executive Board of the Maltese Olympic Committee during which time she was the Chef de Mission for the Manchester 2002 Commonwealth Games and Athens 2004 Olympic Games. Marie Therese leads IoD Malta's European funding applications and servicing the flagship Chartered Director Programme.

Nadia Pace is the former CEO of World Aviation Group, and now CEO of The Pace Company. Nadia is a C-level business strategist focusing on leadership, business development and growth. With over 10 years of experience in people leadership and senior-level positions, Nadia adopts a hands-on approach to develop strategic plans and leadership of executive management teams to address operational gaps.

Dr Roberta Lepre is the founder and director of Weave Consulting, specialised in CSR, working with companies to achieve profitability through sustainability and helping them have a more positive social and environmental impact. She has served as legal advisor to the National Commission for the Promotion of Equality and Director of Victim Support Malta, an NGO which provides support to victims of crime. Other past roles include serving as a member of the Guardian for Future Generations, a high-level body set up under the Sustainable Development Act, Chairperson of the Platform for Human Rights Organisations in Malta, and member of the Commission on Domestic Violence. Roberta is a Member of the IoD Malta Governance Board and of the Sigma Foundation.

Edwin Ward, IoD Malta Chair, is well known for supporting gender equality and is Chair of a number of organisations in both the public and private sectors.
