The doctor who contracted Coronavirus in Italy had no contact with any patients on his return, St James Hospital said in a statement.
In connection with current reports on a Maltese Medical Doctor contracting the COVID-19 virus, Saint James Hospital Group said that the doctor in question contracted the infection whilst on holiday in Italy and went into self-quarantine immediately upon arriving in Malta on 8 March 2020.
“The doctor did not report to work since, and did not have any contact with patients, medical staff or hospital personnel since returning to Malta. The doctor in fact went straight home, restricting all contact with any third party and remained in strict isolation since, as confirmed by local authorities.
“The Saint James Hospital Group is following the most stringent preventive procedures and is actively monitoring all potential cases to ensure that patients are delivered safe and compliant medical services, in line with international and local health authority recommendations”.
