People in Malta went out onto their balconies and began clapping and cheering this evening, as a sign of respect for Malta's healthcare professionals.

A Facebook event had been set up for Tuesday 17 March at 9.00 pm for everyone to go out on their balconies and clap for the healthcare workers during these trying times. Indeed people from around the Maltese islands took a moment, went outside, and applauded the country's heroes. In Pembroke, some fireworks were even also launched. Several videos showing the applause in various localities were uploaded to Facebook.

Malta has been hit by the Coronavirus as several measures have been put in place, and anyone coming from abroad is made to go into mandatory quarantine. Other measures, such as the closing of schools, have also been taken, and Malta's healthcare professionals are working hard to contain the situation and treat patients.

The Malta independent and its directors would like to thank the all the medical staff for their work and dedication.
