A bus driver has tested positive to Coronavirus, the Malta Public Transport said.

MPT said in a letter to employees seen by The Malta Independent that a driver at the Marsa depot tested positive to COVID-19. He is doing well, the statement said.

MPT is in contact with the health authorities to provide information which would come in handy when the contact tracing exercise is carried out.

A number of other employees who were in contact with the driver are already in quarantine.

The company said in the letter that although all buses are disinfected daily, the following additional procedures were taken:

The buses driven by the driver recently were identified and they were withdrawn from service until more cleaning is carried out;

The drivers who drove the same buses were removed from service and told to stay at home until further notice;

The company is fumigating the Valletta, Marsa and Floriana offices and common areas.
