‘Nothing extraordinary’ about unscheduled Cabinet meeting, Economy Minister says

Thursday, 26 March 2020, 12:36 Last update: about 5 years ago

There is nothing extraordinary in a Cabinet meeting being summoned on a Thursday, given the circumstances the country is facing, Economy Minister Silvio Schembri said.

It is understandable that in the particular time the Cabinet does not meet only on Tuesdays, but on a more regular basis.

Schembri was commenting at the end of a Cabinet meeting which was convened this morning.

The Cabinet this week also met on Monday night to discuss the package the government was drafting along with the social partners, which was then announced on Tuesday.

The set of new measures were aimed to give assurances to businessmen and employees as the number of Coronavirus cases in Malta increase with the resultant factor of an economic slowdown.

The tourism industry is at a standstill as no tourists are arriving after the closure of the airspace, while public events have been banned until further notice.
