A driver was caught driving at 185km/h on the St Paul's Bay bypass on Sunday, the police said. The speed limit on that particular road is 80km/h.

The police force said it was a busy Sunday for its officers, who fined a total of 64 people for speeding.

A number of road checks were carried out by the Traffic Branch, the Rapid Intervention Unit and the Special Intervention Unit at the Coast Road, the St Paul's Bay Bypass and Mellieha, among other places. The police had earlier urged motorists to respect the speed limits.

Similar road checks will be mounted in the coming days.
