17,000 food packages have been distributed to vulnerable families in Malta and Gozo, the Social Solidarity Ministry said.

€300,000 were spent on the state-funded food distribution project.

Due to the current circumstances, these packages had to be delivered to the homes of applicants in order to reduce the chance of spreading Covid-19. Deliveries were made across all of Malta and Gozo over the past few days; 16,000 in Malta and 1,000 in Gozo.

Social Solidarity Minister Michael Falzon said the Foundation for Social Welfare Service, which ran the project, had not only taken care of the logistical side of things but had also delivered the packages to all households in a coordinated manner and in a short period of time. It also contacted a number of vulnerable individuals out of its own will to make sure that they have all the supplies they need.

"All of this is a testament of good governance from a government that understand and aids those who are truly in need," Falzon concluded.
