A biker and pillion rider were involved in an accident which occurred just before noon in Mdina Road, heading to Rabat.

Initially it was thought that the pillion rider, a woman, was a pedestrian, but the police later updated the information that the biker, a man, and the woman were both on the Harley Davidson motorbike.

A car emerged from a side road and the biker swerved to avoid it. Both the biker and the pillion rider fell of the motorbike, as a consequence. 

Both the man and woman were taken to hospital, with the woman seriously hurt, while the biker was slightly injured.

Police were informed of the accident. District police and an ambulance arrived on the scene.
