Friday, 24 July 2020, 12:39 Last update: about 6 years ago

The number of active cases of Coronavirus has doubled overnight after six new cases were found in the last 24 hours, figures issued by health authority revealed.

All six new cases are related to the case found yesterday, who attended a major party over the weekend, with four of them having tested positive this morning.

The Health Ministry yesterday confirmed that the person who tested positive for the virus yesterday had attended a weekend-long event at the Radisson Blu hotel. Authorities recommended that all those who attended the event should phone 111 and make an appointment to be swabbed, even if they have no symptoms.

Today's figures mean that the number of active cases in Malta has doubled to 12.

A total of 931 swab tests were carried out in the last 24 hours, meaning that the total number of swabs so far is at 117,840.

Malta has had a total of 686 cases of the virus since 7 March, with 665 of those recovering and 9 passing away.
