Sunday, 26 July 2020, 10:19 Last update: about 6 years ago

14 new Coronavirus cases were reported between Saturday and Sunday, the health authorities have said, while there have been no new recoveries.

This is the highest spike in cases that the country has seen for many weeks, not witnessing such numbers since the height of the pandemic.

In a statement, the Health Ministry said that Nine of the 14 cases are linked to the hotel takeover party, therefore reaching a total of 15 confirmed cases as part of this cluster.

"The Public Health Authorities are still recommending that all those who attended any event or party related to the Hotel Takeover Summer 2020 get tested for COVID-19. Persons are to call 111 to set an appointment, even if they do not have any symptoms."

The ministry said that, as symptoms can develop within 14 days of exposure, it is imperative that whoever attended these events monitor themselves for symptoms for the coming two weeks. "Anyone who develops symptoms should stay indoors and call 111 again to book another swab test to exclude COVID-19 infection."

Three of the fourteen cases were local sporadic cases and two were imported cases, the statement read.

"None of the 14 positive cases require treatment in hospital and, following clinical evaluation, are all recovering at their own home under the coordination of primary healthcare."

These numbers mean that there are now 26 active cases in the country, and there have been 700 total cases since the start of the pandemic.

There have been 665 recoveries in total, and nine people have died.

The number of swab tests carried out between Saturday and Sunday was 1,220, meaning that the total number of such tests rose to 120,145.
