Malta’s National Band Club Association (Ghaqda Nazzjonali Kazini tal-Banda) has called on its members to practice caution when it comes to organising activities and celebratory activities.

In a Facebook post they said that during these times it is important for everyone to hold public health as a priority and hold back from doing anything that could meddle with the hard work of the health authorities.

“For this reason, the union, as it has already done, is appealing for a level of maturity and prudence when it comes to activities relating to village feasts. The union encouraged all its members to practice great caution when organising such activities,” its statement read.

“This is an exceptional year and this is why village feats celebrations should reflect the situation we are in at the moment.”

The call comes after a public health alert was issued because a person who tested positive for Covid-19 attended activities at the Santa Venera village feast last Wednesday and Thursday.

All those who attended this feast on the aforementioned days have been told to call 111 to arrange a swab test.

Many have called for mass events – such as feast marches – to be banned after cases of the virus spiked in recent days.

In a statement yesterday, the Curia reminded that celebratory activities such as feast marches do not fall under its remit.
