The Medical Association of Malta said that a “new record” of Coronavirus cases is expected today Wednesday.

In a statement, MAM said that the Covid-19 situation has “deteriorated significantly leading to sudden and sharp increase in numbers, and that the tally of new cases on Wednesday is expected to reach a new record”.

On Tuesday 11 August, four patients were admitted to Mater Dei with serious Covid 19 symptoms, bringing the tally to seven hospitalised patients, MAM said.

The highest number of cases in a single day was registered on Sunday, with 54. The last two weeks have seen a steady increase in the number of cases, which have now reached 1,141, with 440 still active.

MAM has extended its industrial action till Friday.
