Recent pictures have shown red arrows being sprayed on the ground, stone and rubble walls at Majjistral Park boundaries.
On Wednesday the Majjistral Nature and History Park wrote a statement on their social media calling for individuals who see such marks to send a photo and coordinates of the location to them.
“It is illegal, according to SL 549.83 to cause damage to the Park and its biodiversity. Such actions are subject to hefty fines. These actions have therefore been reported to Mellieha Local Council and the Police.”
The act of vandalism is harmful and dangerous to the park as such spray paint can cause damage to wildlife as it contains toxic chemicals and to remove them can only be done using more toxic chemicals. Such marks do not belong in the countryside and also spoil the enjoyment of the countryside for responsible visitors. The statement also highlights that such marks are unacceptable as permitting procedures are already in place to carry out activities within the park which need approval first by the Conservation officer.
“We ask the public to please help us look after our national Nature and History Park and other precious open natural spaces. After all these spaces belong to all of us and we need to care for them for the health benefits they provide to us as well as that of our future generations.”
