Poland advises against unnecessary travel to Malta

Friday, 21 August 2020, 17:01 Last update: about 6 years ago

The Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs has advised against unnecessary trips, especially tourist trips to Malta, due to the increasing number of COVID-19 infections in the country.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs advises against unnecessary journeys, especially tourist journeys to the entire territory of Malta due to the dynamic increase in new coronavirus infections. Due to the high COVID-19 incidence rate in Malta, some European countries have imposed restrictions on passenger traffic with Malta. You should take into account that in the near future there may be restrictions or a total ban on flights between Malta and other countries, including Poland.”

There is no information on whether tourists leaving Malta and arriving in Poland will have to have a COVID-19 swab test or have to quarantine.

Poland is the 15th country to advise against travel to Malta.

On Tuesday, Switzerland had placed Malta on its quarantine list and as of yesterday, arrivals from Malta are now banned in Cyprus.

They join several other countries such as the United Kingdom, Italy, and Greece which have implemented measures – ranging from mandatory quarantine to the presentation of a negative test – on those travelling from Malta.

Whilst a growing number of countries have placed restrictions on travel to Malta, the island has now introduced an amber list of countries, which is made up of Bulgaria, Romania, and parts of Spain, where arrivals must present a negative COVID-19 test before boarding their flights to Malta.

The amber list comes into effect on Friday, and is updated on a weekly basis.
