Updated: Louise Tedesco adds her name to string of resignations from PN after Delia defeat

Sunday, 4 October 2020, 17:43 Last update: about 5 years ago

A call for unity by new Nationalist Party leader Bernard Grech has gone unheeded with some people who supported Adrian Delia, and today they announced their resignation.

Delia himself pledged loyalty to the man who beat him, but some did not take his defeat lightly, given that it was masterminded by a group of MPs who, instead of showing their leader support, worked against him.

Deborah Mifsud, a PN councillor in Birkirkara, said on Facebook that she had informed general secretary Francis Zammit Dimech that she will no longer represent the party and will remain as an independent candidate. She also resigned from the party executive committee.

Andre Grech resigned from the SMEPN group and automatically lost his place in the executive committee, Newsbook reports.

Two other councillors, Doriana Portelli in Birzebbuga and Charmaine Aquilina in Marsa, both said they will resign.

In the evening, popular presenter Louise Tedesco also announced her resignation.

She said that with immediate effect she will resigning from all positions she occupied in the PN, including that of a local councillor. She will also resign from her employment with the PN media.

Well-known personality Terry ta’ Bormla, one of Delia’s most ardent supporters, said she will now join the Labour Party, inviting her followers to join her when she goes to the PL headquarters tomorrow.
