The controlled demolition operation at the site in Paceville where a four0storey building collapsed last Wednesday has been completed.

In a statement Sunday, the Building and Construction Authority (BCA) and the Occupational Health and Safety Authority said that the operation was carried out with the assistance of the Civil Protection Department,

This operation, which lasted three days, was carried out under the coordination of the BCA and CPD, with the support of the (OHSA), the Police, Transport Malta, LESA, the Emergency Department at Mater Dei Hospital, Enemalta, the Cleaning and Maintenance Division, the Water Services Corporation, the Detention Services Agency and the private contractors involved.

In the coming days, the BCA will carry out the second phase of works which includes the cleaning of the site and the reopening of the road. This process will continue to be carried out under supervision to ensure the safety of the surrounding buildings and the public.

At the same time, the BCA is in constant contact with the affected people, particularly those who were evacuated from their residences and businesses, so that in the coming days the process of their return can begin, where possible.

The investigation to establish the cause of the incident will continue. This is being conducted by independent professionals appointed by the BCA.
