Over 60 NGOs have come together to organise a sit-down protest against the government’s actions on Malta and Gozo’s natural and cultural heritage.

The protest comes after the government signed away two pristine tracts of woodland in Mizieb and L-Ahrax in a backroom deal to the FKNK, an action which raised the ire of NGOs and environmental activists alike.

The government was lambasted for signing the deal behind closed doors, with the media not being invited to the signing.

The protest is planned for Saturday 31 October at 10am in Castille Square, at the doorstep of the Office of the Prime Minister.

“People are outraged at what the Government has been doing to Malta’s and Gozo’s natural and cultural heritage”, the NGOs said.

The coalition of NGOs said that it is overwhelmed by the response of the general public with over 30,000 persons signing the online petition to keep Malta’s public spaces public.

Attendees are encouraged to bring placards and signs with their personal message, and are also remained that all participants must respect all Covid-19 regulations, meaning that social distancing must be maintained, that all must wear a mask, and that all must bring their own hand sanitiser.
