Floriana registered a marginal win over Senglea when an early goal scored by Tiago Fonseca was at the end the difference between the two sides. It was no stroll in the park for the Greens who had to sweat hard in order to take the all important points.

This was a must win match for both teams with Floriana seeking the maximum points after losing two out of their first four matches Their latest setback was defeat at the hands of Santa Lucia. On the other hand Senglea have been on the receiving end in three out of the first four matches.

For long stretches play was concentrated in the midfield area with Floriana holding the upper hand. But Senglea must be commended for their efforts and even must consider themselves unlucky since their late rally could have saved the day for them.

Floriana took the lead as early as the 9th minute when Tiago Fonseca found the corner of the net through a diagonal short from inside the area.  The Greens kept on dictating matters and on 16 minutes a Diego Venancio free kick hit the upright.

Senglea could have drew level just past the half hour when off a Zachary Cassar cross from the left flank a close range Matombo shot just missed the target.

The first minutes of the second period were practically dull and it was only in the 64th minute that Senglea went near through a shot on the turn by Kevaughn Atkinson which ended wide off the mark.

Five minutes later a Diego Venancio free kick was saved with ease by the Senglea goalkeeper.  The Greens missed a golden chance on 73 minutes when Fonseca set Dias whom with only Farrugia to beat hit the side rigging.

Eight minutes from the end of the match an acute shot by Atkinson ended inches wide. With Floriana now under pressure when Atkinson once again dribbled around goalkeeper Spiteri but his shot was saved off the line by Camenzuli.

Till the end Floriana held strong to return to winning ways and bag three precious points.
