A woman has died this morning in a fire in her residence in Rabat, the police said.

The accident took place in St Patrick Street at 5.45am.

The police said that Civil Protection Department officers went on site as did a medical team, who certified the 74-year-old woman dead.

The police did not give more details.

Magistrate Victor Axiaq is leading an inquiry.
