Prime Minister Robert Abela said that the elections on 8 June have taken on a new dimension, saying that people must now vote on whether they want to keep the power to determine their own future.

Addressing a Labour Party activity in Cospicua, Abela said that the PN had come into the electoral campaign without a plan and thinking that they can fight it out in court.

“In court there are processes, but they have to be just with everyone, and I spoke and will keep speaking when they aren’t just,” Abela said, in what was his only reference during his speech on the court saga surrounding the hospitals deal.

“The choice on 8 June goes beyond this – it’s a choice which has taken on a new dimension, because now that day will determine whether the people will keep hold of the power to decide and determine their own future,” he said.

He said that “the establishment” does its best to undermine the democratic process when it doesn’t get what it wants from it.

“The people must answer by taking part and by giving strength to those who give them strength,” he said.

He said that the vote is an important part of allowing the government to continue keeping their 1,000 promises from the Labour Party’s 2022 general election manifesto.

Abela said that nothing would stop the Labour Party’s worth, and that whatever the Nationalist Party does the country will continue to have “the best economy in Europe.”

He said that parents of post-secondary students will soon receive the first of three €500 cheques,a nd that “however many storms they threaten from the other side” the government would be reducing income tax as promised.

The more the establishment attacks, the more hate gets thrown around, the more tempting confrontation gets.  But we want to work together, in a sense of national unity,” he said.
