Wednesday, 25 November 2020, 18:14 Last update: about 4 years ago

An initiative of the Malta Government Investments (MGI) involving a permanent digital platform to help raise funds for the Malta Community Chest Fund Foundation was launched on Wednesday.

The theme chosen for this year’s campaign is ‘Every drop counts.’

The digital platform can be accessed through strinacrowdfunding.mt. It aims to raise funds that would have normally been gathered from several yearly events, including the Fun Run and Rockestra, which had to be cancelled due to Covid-19.

During the launch of this initiative, President George Vella explained how the spirit of Christmas is truly shown through the solidarity that the Maltese people can show with those around them.

President Vella thanked those companies that are already taking part in this initiative, and also thanked in advance all the companies that will join up.

The nation should participate as much as possible in order to make this initiative a success and to continue from year to year, because there is no end to illnesses, Vella appealed.

Minister for the Economy and Industry Silvio Schembri explained how in light of this effort, an exercise was triggered to coordinate different intiatives by a number of entities in aid of the Community Chest Fund.

Schembri stated that technology was an important source for creating the digital platform, through which people can donate when using services provided by companies that are taking part in this initiative.

He urged businesses to come up with more promotional initiatives in aid of l-Istrina.

Chief Executive of MGI Herald Bonnici stated that ‘during such times, more than ever, we must seek innovative ways to reach out to the general public to raise funds for a noble cause.’
