Birkirkara kept marching on this time with a good win over Floriana, the seventh positive result for the Stripes. Once again Birkirkara looked the better team and inflicted more misery on the Greens who are now  in dire straits.

Birkirkara are one of the team’s in form having won four and drew two from their last six matches following a rather bumpy start. Their opponents Floriana have been one of the most inconsistent teams so far. In fact after winning at a canter against arch-rivals Valletta they had to lower their heads to defeats against Sliema Wanderers, Hamrun Spartans and now Birkirkara.

In fact the position of the reigning Champions is not so healthy, currently placing tenth out of a compliment of sixteen.

Birkirkara had to do without the suspended Kurt Zammit with coach Andre’ Paus making two changes from their last match, Paul Mbong , Da Paixao and Roderick Briffa instead of Kurt Zammit, Caio Prado and Claudio Bonanni.

On the other hand Enzo Potenza welcomed back Flavio Silva Cheveresan though Diego Venancio was still missing. In fact the Italian coach rang the changes with the same Cheveresan together with Beye and Paiber starting the match instead of Leone, Busuttil and Camenzuli.

Floriana started the match brightly when after only twelve minutes they took the lead. Kristian Keqi supplied a perfect cross from the left flank finding Flavio Silva Cheveresan whose header from close range  beat Italian goalkeeper Guarnone.

After this goal the Stripes mounted a reaction and just past the half hour they drew level. A low cross from Cain Attard found Paul Mbong and the nineteen year old made no mistake from close range.

With Birkirkara forging ahead in the 36th minute. Yankam with an intelliġenti pass found Alex Da Paixao Alves and his fierce drive from a distance gave Ini Akpan in between the Floriana posts no chance to save.

In the first part of the second half play was restricted to the midfield sector. But in the 71st minute the Stripes increased their lead.  After captain Jurgen Pisani brought down Alex Da Paixao Alves in the area, the Brazilian striker made no mistake from the spot.

Goals kept on flowing with Luke Montebello scoring their fourth fifteen minutes from the end after being set up by Da Paixao Alves.

The Greens managed to reduce the gap in the 83rd minute when off a Fonseca corner a melee ensued and finally Enzo Ruiz rifled the ball home.

But B’Kara restored the three goal difference on the stroke of time. Caio Prado found Da Paixao who served Luke Montebello with the latters diagonal shot hitting the roof of the net.
