Four more deaths registered, 84 new cases of Covid-19 found overnight

Four more Covid-19 patients have died, while 84 new cases of the virus were reported on Sunday, figures released by authorities showed.

It means that Malta has now had 210 deaths from the virus.

A 74-year-old woman who tested positive for Covid-19 on 2 December passed away on Christmas Day at Mater Dei Hospital.

An 80-year-old woman and an 89-year-old woman who tested positive on 17 December and 12 December respectively both passed away on Saturday.  The former passed away at St. Thomas Hospital while the latter died at Mater Dei Hospital.

An 86-year-old woman meanwhile died on Sunday at Mater Dei Hospital after testing positive for the virus on 25 December.

118 people meanwhile have recovered from the virus, meaning that the number of active cases has decreased to 1,447.

2,249 swab tests were carried out in the previous 24 hours, taking the total number of swab tests up to 503,660.

Out of the 129 cases reported on Saturday: 33 were family members of previously known cases, 16 were direct contacts of positive cases, 15 were work colleagues of positive cases, and 10 were from social gatherings.

Malta has now had 12,325 cases of the virus. 10,668 of those have recovered, while 210 have died.
