Five more Covid-19 patients die, 101 new cases found

Five more Covid-19 patients have passed away, while 101 new cases of the virus were reported on Monday by health authorities.

The deaths mean that 215 people in Malta have now died while positive for Covid-19.  

The patients who passed away where an 88-year-old woman who tested positive for Covid-19 on 22 December; a 93-year-old woman who tested positive for the virus on 13 December; an 86-year-old man who tested positive for the virus on 13 December; a 95-year-old man who tested positive for the virus on 16 December; and a 77-year-old man who tested positive for the virus on 21 December.

 

All of the patients passed away at Mater Dei Hospital, with four passing away on Sunday.  The latter of the five – the 77-year-old man – passed away on Monday morning.

123 people meanwhile have recovered.  This means that the number of active cases has now decreased to 1,420.

2,399 swab tests were carried out in the last 24 hours, taking the total up to 506,059 so far.

Out of the 84 cases reported on Sunday: 22 were family members of known cases, 18 were direct contacts of other positive cases, 9 were contacts of positive work colleagues, and 8 were from social gatherings with other positive cases.

Malta has now had 12,426 cases of Covid-19 so far.  10,791 of those have recovered, while 215 have died.
