70 elderly people in quarantine, 8 positive for Covid-19 after tombola lunch

Wednesday, 30 December 2020, 15:38 Last update: about 4 years ago

Some 70 elderly people have ended up in quarantine while another 8 have tested positive for Covid-19 after they all attended a tombola lunch together during the festive period.

This was reported by Public Health Superintendent Charmaine Gauci during what was her final Covid briefing for 2020.

The 8 members of the cluster were reported by authorities in their social media update on the pandemic on Tuesday, although details were not given at that point.

Gauci however revealed that the cluster had originated from an event which combined tombola with a lunch during the festive period.

She said that around 70 elderly people are also in quarantine as a result of the activity.

Gauci again urged people to continue to follow the measures which are in place to restrict the spread of Covid-19, and warned against excessive social gatherings over the holiday period.
