158 cases of Covid-19 found as active cases surpass 1,700

158 cases of Covid-19 were found overnight as the number of active cases of the virus in Malta has increased to 1,702.

74 people meanwhile have recovered from the virus, while another four, reported earlier today, have died.

The tally of new cases is the highest since 152 new cases were reported on 26 November last year.

2,602 swab tests were carried out in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of swab tests up to 526,858.

Out of the 148 cases reported on Monday: 30 were family members of previously known cases, 16 were direct contacts of positive cases, 10 were from social gatherings with other positive cases, 8 were contacts of positive work colleagues.

Malta has had 13,388 cases of the virus so far.  11,460 of those have recovered, while 226 have died.
