Three people have been arrested after a shooting incident in Cospicua, though nobody was injured, police said.

In a statement, police said that at around 9pm, Cospicua district police were informed that there had likely been a shooting during an argument between two Maltese people and two foreigners in Triq id-Dejqa in Cospicua.

Police said that they went on site along with the Rapid Intervention Unit, where they found that four people who live in the same road had been involved in the same argument.

Preliminary investigations showed that two brothers – one 24 years old and the other 20 years old – claimed that a 55-year-old man had shot a round in their direction and that his 26-year-old son was also involved in the argument.

Police said that they found a shotgun which was likely used in the shooting in the residence of the 55-year-old, and that they had elevated a shotgun casing and some shot from the road.

They said that one shot had been fired and that nobody was injured.

Police said that in a search on the residence where the two brothers live a substance suspected to be cannabis was found.

Investigations to establish the dynamics of the argument are still ongoing.

The 55-year-old man and the two brothers are currently being held under arrest by the police while investigations continue.

Duty Magistrate Marseann Farrugia is leading a magisterial inquiry.
