PN says re-appointment of Gavin Gulia as MTA chairman must be vetted by Parliament

Thursday, 14 January 2021, 08:51 Last update: about 4 years ago

The Nationalist Party is urging the Tourism Minister not to-reappoint Gavin Gulia as chairman of the Malta Tourism Authority.

Gulia resigned the post of MTA chairman after he was elected as an MP to replace Edward Scicluna in Parliament.

But, minutes after being sworn-in, Gulia handed in his resignation. He is now expected to be re-appointed MTA chief.

The PN said that the Tourism Minister is obliged by law to present the nomination of a chairman of a public entity before the Permanent Committee on Public Offices. In this case, Gulia’s resignation ended his term as MTA chairman and as such a fresh nomination for his re-appointment needs to be submitted for scrutiny.
