Composer and musician Sammy Galea has passed away, PBS reports.

Galea, aged 86, had toured the world  and through his long career achieved success both locally and abroad.

Among other things, he had composed Singing This Song, which saw Renato represent Malta at the Eurovision Song Contest in 1975. In 1994, he had won the Malta Song Festival with his song, Forsi, and went on to win the festival for four consecutive years. In 2003, he also won the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Malta Music Awards.
