Covid-19 cases still high, but number of patients recovering on the rise – Marmara

Sunday, 24 January 2021, 07:30 Last update: about 4 years ago

The number of new Covid-19 cases registered this past week again supersedes the number of patients who have recovered, but the two statistics are now getting closer, statistician Vincent Marmara said.

In his weekly vlog for The Malta Independent on Sunday, Marmara said that we have become used to the different cycles since the pandemic started.

This past week, after the peak in cases reached in the two-week period after the New Year festivities, the numbers have been on the decline. We are still registering high numbers, he added, but the curve is going downwards.

The number of deaths being registered is still significant, he added, but the number of recovered patients is on the rise.

This past week has seen a record of patients who recovered, but the number of new cases is still higher, Marmara said.

The R-factor has dropped to 1.32, which means that the rate of transmission is still high.

Referring to what is happening in other countries, Marmara said that the number of new cases in England has gone down after strict restrictions were put in place.

The numbers in France have remained stable, while those in Spain have seen a significant rise.

Italy and Germany have also seen a drop, he said.
