Carl Brincat has been appointed as the CEO of the Malta Gaming Authority (MGA) after a public call, the Economy Ministry announced on Tuesday.

In a statement, Minister for the Economy and Industry Silvio Schembri welcomed Brincat’s appointment.

Brincat is a lawyer by profession, previously occupying the role of Chief Legal and Enforcement Officer within the MGA. He has been working with the MGA for the past six years and was part of the strategic direction team of the Authority, the high-level regulatory committees, as well as part of the team that spearheaded the change in the gaming regulatory framework, which was put into effect in 2018.

The statement read that this appointment came after “a rigorous process” which followed the issuance of a public call for applications in December of last year.

This was the first time that the CEO was selected through an open call procedure as recommended by Minister Schembri himself, the statement read.

“Such a process enhances the Authority’s credibility and determination in promoting transparency, as well as sending out a clear message to gaming operators on the seriousness of the Maltese jurisdiction. The newly appointed CEO shall enhance on the success achieved during the past years, namely in placing Malta as a main referral point within the gaming industry, repeatedly proving its resilience during such challenging times. The government is committed to providing its support and assistance to gaming companies, current and new ones, to grow in a safe and reputable environment. I congratulate Dr Brincat on his new role,” said Minister Schembri.
