Vaccination against Covid-19 has begun at Agenzija Sapport, with residents and staff there starting to receive the vaccine.

A total of 15 people – 8 residents and 7 staff members were vaccinated on Tuesday.

In a short press conference, Minister Julia Farrugia Portelli as well as Agenzija Sapport CEO Ruth Sciberras gave a few comments on the matter.

The day centre of Agenzija Sapport is the first place for people who are vulnerable and are 16 and over where vaccinations are being administered. The next phase is to expand into other homes and residences for vulnerable people all together.

The third cohort had its vaccination date pushed forward. The roll out was planned for April but was advanced to February due the availability of other vaccines as well as a fast tracked vaccination process across the Maltese islands.

Farrugia Portelli said that these vulnerable people felt the worst that the pandemic has to offer as due to isolation and other factors, their social life was abruptly cut short. The day centres of Agenzija Sapport form an integral part of these people’s lives.

Farrugia Portelli then confirmed that so far no one has refused to take the vaccine and that a total of 933 people will be vaccinated from now up until March. This figure also includes staff members.
