A man and a woman were injured as the car they were in crashed into a private residence, the police said. The two were later identified as being Catering industry tycoon James Barbara and his wife.

The accident took place in Cospicua Road, Zejtun, at 12.30am.

The man, aged 50 of Tarxien, lost control of the Lamborghini Urus he was driving and crashed into a private residence.

The man was taken to hospital with grievous injuries.

His wife, aged 45, who was with him in the car, suffered serious injuries and was also taken to hospital.

Magistrate Joe Mifsud is leading an inquiry.
