A Facebook comment suggesting that Nationalist MP Karol Aquilina should be “hanged and tied to the statue of St Nicholas in Siggiewi” has raised uproar on the social media.

Aquilina uploaded a screenshot of the comment made, saying that he will not be stopped from speaking out.

“Someone thinks that I should be killed in the Siggiewi square and then my body subjected to violence. This incitement for violence and hatred against me will not shut me up and I will not be stopped from continuing to work for justice and the truth.

“Nothing and nobody will stop me. Not Keith Schembri, not Konrad Mizzi and not even Steve Cauchi,” the PN MP wrote.

Aquilina told The Malta Independent that he had officially reported the matter to the Police Commissioner, Cyber Crime Unit and Hate Crime and Speech Unit.

In his letter, the MP asked the police to investigate the incident, saying it contained a death threat, incitement to violence and hatred in his regard.

Several PN officials expressed their disdain and showed their solidarity with their colleague.
