Updated: Fire engines on site as smoke seen in Sliema restaurant

Fire engines were called to assist as smoke was seen emanating from a restaurant in Sliema this morning.

Police said that the call for assistance arrived at 7.45am.

The restaurant is Fernando's in Tigne Street.

Police said that Civil Protection Department personnel brought the situation under control within minutes.

Nobody was injured.

The cause of the incident is unknown.

The owners of the restaurant in a Facebook post later said that there was no damage caused, and it will be open as usual.
