Updated: PN rules out internal action against Busuttil over Egrant

The Nationalist Party's Administrative Council has confirmed that the party has no intention of launching any internal procedure against Simon Busuttil over his statements and actions during the Egrant saga, the PN said in a statement.

The Egrant inquiry had not find evidence that the company had belonged to the former Prime Minister or his wife. Prior to it being issued, Busuttil had been a major critic of Muscat, often mentioning Egrant.

In July 2018, PN Leader Adrian Delia had issued a statement saying that there was no intention to initiate any internal procedure against Simon Busuttil in the wake of the publication of the Egrant inquiry conclusions, adding that this would be confirmed by the party's Administrative Council. This came after mediation took place between factions within the PN who had gone head to head over the issue, as Delia had originally asked for Busuttil's resignation. The matter had never been formally closed internally, however, and the Administrative Council has finally issued its decision.

A PN statement read that this decision by the PN's Administrative Council came following a proposal by current Opposition Leader Bernard Grech and in light of the statement that had been issued by Delia in July 2018.

The party thanked Busuttil, who is also a former party leader, "for his work in the best interest of good governance and the fight against corruption, even in his position of EPP Secretary General at the European Parliament."

In reply, the Labour Party said that if there had been any doubt as to who is leading the PN, the administrative committee confirmed it yesterday.

Bernard Grech is a hostage of who put him as leader, the PL said.
