A sixth person has been arrested in connection with a romance fraud investigated by the police in the past weeks.

Five persons had been arrested and charged in the first week of February.

The suspects – four Nigerian men and a Maltese woman – had been arrested after months of investigations by the Paola Police and the Anti-money laundering squad.

The group posed as an American soldier serving in Afghanistan, befriending an elderly woman and entering into a virtual relationship with her, the police said.

A sixth person, also from Nigeria, was arrested yesterday and will be charged in court before Magistrate Caroline Farrugia Frendo later today.
