Former Inter, Italy defender Mauro Bellugi dies

Former Inter and Italy defender Mauro Bellugi died today, Italian media report. He was 71.

Bellugi had both his legs amputated late last year after testing positive to Covid-19.

In interviews he had given later, Bellugi said the doctors had given him one hour to decide on the amputation.

In the past weeks his condition had worsened until be passed on today.

Apart from Inter, he had also played for Bologna, Napoli and Pistoiese.

Bellugi played 31 times for the Italian national team between 1972 and 1979. He played five games in the 1978 World Cup tournament when Italy finished fourth.
