192 new Covid-19 cases found, 30-year-old becomes Malta’s youngest victim

192 new cases of Covid-19 were reported by authorities on Thursday as a 30-year-old woman became Malta’s youngest person to succumb to the virus.

Three people died while positive for the virus in the last 24 hours: an 83-year-old woman who passed away at Mater Dei Hospital, a 30-year-old woman who passed away at St. Thomas Hospital, and a 67-year-old man who passed away at Mount Carmel Hospital.

The 30-year-old woman is the youngest person out of the 311 people who have now died while positive for the virus.

In a separate statement, the Health Ministry said that the 30-year-old woman had been admitted to hospital from Dar tal-Providenza on 18 February and that she suffered from several health conditions. 

The Ministry said that so far 75 residents of the home have received the first dose, and that the remaining residents will be vaccinated by tomorrow.

185 people meanwhile have recovered from the virus, meaning that the number of active cases has increased marginally to 2,508.

3,743 swab tests were administered on Wednesday, taking the total number of swab tests up to 687,974 so far.

71,562 doses of the vaccine were administered as of Wednesday, with 22,501 people having now received both doses of the vaccine.

Malta has had 21,724 cases of the virus.  18,905 of those have recovered, while 311 have died.
