In a Facebook post, Dar tal-Providenza – which is pictured above – said: “It is with deep regret that we announce the passing away of Christine Said, resident of Id-Dar tal-Providenza, at the vulnerable age of 30 which took place yesterday 24 February 2021.”

Her funeral will be held at 2pm today at the Siggiewi Parish Church, and the home offered their condolences to her family and friends.

In a statement, the Health Ministry meanwhile said that Said was admitted to hospital from the home on 18 February.

Dar Tal-Providenza said that this was the date when Said tested positive for the virus.  Resident and care workers who were in contact with her were put under preventive quarantine immediately, the home said.

“Dar tal-Providenza is in constant contact with the Department of Public Health and is taking all necessary precautionary measures to safeguard the health and wellbeing of all its residents and employees”, the home said.

She passed away yesterday at St. Thomas Hospital, becoming the youngest of Malta’s 311 Covid-19 victims to date.

The Health Ministry said that the vaccination process at Dar tal-Providenza began on 15 February, and that 75 residents have received the first dose of their vaccine so far.  The remaining residents, they said, will be vaccinated by Friday.

The Ministry offered its condolences to the home and to those close to the victim, and once again emphasised on that even now when the vaccination programme is progressing well, the public should continue to observe all preventive measures.
