A cyclist was grievously injured on Saturday after he was hit by a car in Rabat, the police said.

The accident took place in Triq il-Buqana, at around 7.30am.

The cyclist, a 54-year-old man from Rabat, was involved in a collision with a Toyota Aygo driven by a 56-year-old man from Qormi.

He was given first aid on site and was later taken to Mater Dei Hospital by ambulance.

The police are investigating.
