Only a few supporters did not abide by the health directives being issued, a statement by Ħamrun Spartans Football Club read.

This comes after a number of Hamrun Spartans fans breached Covid-19 laws to celebrate after winning a match against Hibernians FC.

The club remarked that “they did not organise any form of celebrations”, saying that “a lot of people took the occasion to cast a shadow over the club and our locality”.

“They were only very few fans who did not abide by the directives issued by the Health Authorities,” the club’s statement read.

The club noted that the three clubs that are operated by the club – Strada Rjali, Victor Tedesco Stadium, and Nursery bar – are all closed as was according to the health directives.

The “vast majority” of supporters that did celebrate did it in the form of car cades, the club said.

The club appealed to their supporters to follow the health instructions that are being given.

“The club needs to continue winning both on the pitch and off it, in this case, by heeding the directives and helping the club by not going against the instructions that are being provided.”
