Watch: Hamrun Spartans fans hold street party, in breach of Covid-19 restrictions

Saturday, 6 March 2021, 19:22 Last update: about 4 years ago

Hamrun Spartans fans celebrated their team’s win against Hibernians with an illegal street party on Saturday afternoon.

Footage uploaded on social media shows a large crowd celebrating in the streets as police officers look on helplessly.

Mass events are banned under Covid-19 rules, and public gatherings are limited to six people. The government introduced new measures to slow down the spread of Covid-19 just this week.

Last month, the police said they would be taking steps against a Hamrun establishment after a similar video of football celebrations was posted on social media. The footage showed club president and Gozitan property magnate Joseph Portelli lighting a cigarette inside a catering establishment.

And in January, another massive street party was held in Hamrun after the team won against Valletta.
