An American man died on Friday evening after he fell inside his own residence in Senglea.

The accident took place in an apartment block in Misraħ Dom Mawru Inguanez at around 8pm, the police said.

The man, 59, tripped and fell down the stairs. He was pronounced dead on site.

Magistrate Astrid May Grima is leading an inquiry.

In a separate accident, a woman was grievously injured after she fell down a shaft. The accident took place at around 8.30pm in Triq il-Wirt Naturali in Baħar iċ-Ċagħaq.

The woman was inside a residence that is under construction.

She was assisted by members of the Civil Protection Department and was later taken to Mater Dei Hospital by ambulance.

The police are investigating both cases.
