Allowances that were granted to persons with disability have more than doubled since 2013, according to information tabled in Parliament.
The data was provided by social justice minister Michael Falzon in reply to a parliamentary question by Labour MP Oliver Scicluna.
In 2013, the amount in allowance disbursed stood at €12,900, while in 2020, this shot up to €27,395,000. Allowances since 2013 have consistently increased to reach this figure, year on year.
The allowances for people with disability were distributed as follows in 2020: People who suffer from visual impairment were granted €2,250,065.51; people who received assistance for disability were granted €759,014.86, people who suffered from severe disability were granted €18,349,591.76, and people who received additional allowance for severe disability were granted €6,035,819.24.
