Young man dies after gas leak

A young man, Ramiro Mallia, lost his life in Qormi today, after losing consciousness due to a gas leak from a heater, the police said.

The incident took place at 4.30pm. The 19-year-old was given first aid by a medical team on site, but died after reaching Mater Dei Hospital.

Puttinu Cares led the tributes, saying that the young man had always had a smile on his face and had beaten cancer when he was just three years old.

"It is a big shock for us who knew you from when you are young. You were a heartful volunteer and always ready to help in every marathon", they said before offering their condolences to Mallia's family.

The Malta Football Association also expressed its deep sadness at the news.  Mallia came through the youth ranks of Qormi Football Club and was playing on loan with Marsaskala FC for this season.
