PM invites EP President to Malta to ‘witness first-hand’ rule of law reforms

Prime Minister Robert Abela has invited the President of the European Parliament David Maria Sassoli and the leaders of political groups within the EP to visit Malta to see first-hand reforms the country carried out in the field of the rule of law.

During a bilateral meeting with Sassoli, Abela the unprecedented changes and reforms introduced by the Maltese Government to further enhance the rule of law and bolster institutions and entities such that they may implement justice effectively,” the government said.

Prime Minister Abela highlighted the reforms which took place after close consultation with the Venice Commission, and also following the parliamentary process. He also gave an overview of the actions being implemented in the fight against crime and money laundering. The Prime Minister reiterated his commitment to continue delivering on the reform process.

The President of the European Parliament recognised the Maltese government’s achievements and efforts in this regard, the government said in a statement.

Abela also invited the EP president and the heads of the political groups for an official visit to Malta so that they may witness first-hand these unprecedented changes and reforms that Malta has introduced and implemented which clearly demonstrate Malta’s commitment to the rule of law.
