Friday, 23 April 2021, 14:33 Last update: about 4 years ago

Prime Minister Robert Abela and his wife Lydia Abela have both applied to get the Covid-19 vaccine, as Malta’s roll-out continues to gather pace.

The couple applied for the jab after the government opened the vaccine rollout to all those over 40 years of age.

Those in this age cohort can, as from today, apply to be vaccinated against Covid-19 either by SMS or through vaccin.gov.mt.

Over 300,000 doses of the vaccine have been administered as of Friday’s last update, with just over 96,000 having received both doses of the vaccine.

A fourth vaccine – the single-dose Johnson and Johnson – will is being rolled out with the Pfizer, Moderna, and AstraZeneca vaccines which are already being used after the European Medicines Agency completed an investigation into very rare blood clots as a side-effect of the vaccine.

Malta currently has 513 active cases of the virus.
