Tuesday, 18 May 2021, 19:16 Last update: about 4 years ago

An agreement was signed between the Civil Protection Department and Projects Plus Ltd to carry out the Floriana Fire Station project through an investment of €3.4 million.

This project consists of the construction of a fire station in Floriana, for which there is already a planning permit. The station will be equipped with special vehicles to offer a better service in Valletta, Floriana and the surrounding area. As Valletta is a world heritage site, in the event of a fire, this project will be essential as the problem will be dealt with quickly.

Minister for Transport, Infrastructure and Capital Projects Ian Borg said, "We are committed to offer the best conditions in the best environment possible for the operation of these services, and we are giving all the necessary support because we believe in them, we believe in the services they offer and, above all, in the security and protection they give to every citizen."

Minister for Home Affairs, National Security and Law Enforcement Byron Camilleri explained how this station will serve to provide a better and more efficient service to the surrounding communities. "From a derelict area, this land will be transformed into a state-of-the-art location that will lead to a safer society. Through this investment, the Civil Protection Department is at its best, as major technological and infrastructure investments have been made in recent years."

Projects Plus's role will be that of managing the construction project and, through its specialised technical resources, it will also be assisting in procurement and addressing the development of the architectural, engineering and IT technical designs.

Works on the project are expected to start in 2022 and estimated to be completed towards the end of 2024.
