Valletta open-air cultural activities called off for second year running

All open-air cultural activities that were planned for the summer have been called off for the second year running, Jason Micallef, who runs the Valletta Cultural Agency, noted on the social media.

In a bitter post, Micallef said that he had been informed that no activities will be allowed at least until September.

“We made great sacrifices over the last 14 months. We waited for the vaccine and it arrived. We obeyed, the whole country has been vaccinated. Some 160,000 have taken the second jab. Malta has the lowest death and infection rates in all the EU. Active cases are down to 100.”

In spite of this, no activity can take place in open spaces, roads, squares and other places, even if controlled entrances take place, he lamented.

He said that a team of enthusiasts had planned several “responsible” cultural activities which were to be held this summer, but all of them have been cancelled now. “I cannot understand this,” he wrote.
